According to a new report, Pro iPhone 2021 models and all new 2022 iPhones will be getting low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) displays capable of varying refresh rates, allowing always-on display functionality, better battery life, enhanced screen contrast and more.
According to the reports, a new supplier, apparently LG, will be building a brand new production line that will have the capacity of making billions of new LTPO displays ready for Apple’s entire lineup of iPhone models in the next few years.
However, it would be more likely that apple will only put these new displays on the iPhone Pro models, paving its way to be released to the entire lineup of iPhones in the following year.
Having such an advanced display would enable Apple to more realistically look at having an always on display on the iPhone; enabling slower re-fresh rate while the screen is 'off' and then when in use, could increase the rate to 120hz refresh rates.
